Although I haven't seen it officially confirmed anywhere it appears the Conservatives have chosen Jane Hunt as their candidate for the Leicester South by-election. Ross Grant, the leader of the Tory group on Leicester Council, congratulated Hunt on twitter. We eagerly await The Today Programme's coverage of this by-election!
Hunt is a Councillor on the Charnwood District Council in Leicestershire. She stood against the Labour MP Keith Vaz in Leicester East at the General Election where she managed a 4.8% swing towards her party. Another second place for Hunt seems likely in this by-election.
Here's an updated candidate list:
By-Election Candidate | 2010 |
Jonathan Ashworth (LAB) | 45.6% |
Zaffur Huq (LD) | 26.9% |
Jane Hunt (CON) | 21.4% |
- (BNP) | 3.0% |
- (GRN) | 1.6% |
Abhijit Pandya (UKIP) | 1.5% |
