The current Conservative Assembly Member for North Wales Brynle Williams sadly passed away on Thursday, aged 62. Williams was the shadow Rural Affairs Minister during the last Assembly and had been selected as the Tories #2 candidate on the North Wales list for the forthcoming election. He was fairly certain of winning a third term at next month's election.
Williams' entry into politics could hardly be described as traditional as the former farmer entered the Assembly in 2003 at the age of 54. He had been a prominent figure in the high profile fuel protests three years earlier. Glowing tributes have been paid by both political friends and foes alike.
We understand that Antoinette Sandbach will move up a place in the Conservative's regional list to replace Williams as their second candidate.
