Candidates Confirmed in Leicester South By-Election

The Statement of Persons Nominated for the Leicester South by-election has been released today and as expected the number of candidates is quite low. The by-election is taking place on May 5th following the resignation of Labour MP Sir Peter Soulsby. He stood down to contest Leicester's first Mayoral election, which is also taking place on May 5th.

The sole addition to the four we already knew about is the Monster Raving Loony Party's leader Howling Laud Hope. As the only minor party UKIP should easily hold their deposit, especially if they take votes from the Conservatives as in previous by-elections. Given the current lead Labour have in the polls a win for them seems like a forgone conclusion.

Here's the full candidate list:

4. Conservatives select their candidate

Ps. There are no Council by-elections taking place tonight (that we know of).
