We hope you've enjoyed the festive period and we wish you all a Happy New Year! Having spent the last 10 days globetrotting we are now refreshed and ready for the busy political soon to be upon us. When I say globetrotting I really mean we've been the length and breadth of the South West between us…the quality of roads and public transport just make it feel a lot further!
We're hitting the ground running with a by-election in Berkshire this Thursday before the first Parliamentary by-election since the General Election takes place next week. The most interesting election related development over the Christmas period is that a relatively unknown polling company Survation are currently conducting a poll in Oldham East & Saddleworth. I'm sceptical of how accurate this will turn out to be for a variety of reasons but it's bound to create a stir when it's released. After this month Council by-elections will dry up but this is a blessing in disguise. We're planning to provide commentary on all three devolved assembly elections as well as the two referendums so the spare time Tom will suddenly have will be aptly filled! For a quick reference here are some important dates for your diary:
6th January | First By-Election of 2011 (Park, Windsor & Maidenhead) |
13th January | Oldham East & Saddleworth Parliamentary By-Election |
11th February | Britain-Votes.co.uk's 1st Birthday |
3rd March | Welsh Assembly Extension of Powers Referendum |
5th May | Scottish Parliament Election |
| Welsh Assembly Election |
| Local Elections in England & Northern Ireland |
| Alternative Vote Referendum |
