Our by-election list is a little bit shorter this week as just two new vacancies have replaced the nine that took place last week. We're going to be busy right up until December as there are currently at least four by-elections scheduled every week until the 24th November.

As mentioned last week, it will be interesting to see if the Adur by-election is actually called or whether they hold it back until May next year. The Conservatives were very vocal in their opposition to the last by-election taking place barely six months before the partial Council elections.

Of course, they were defending the seat last week and came very close to losing it to Labour.Link They will be strong favourites to gain the Eastbrook from the Liberal Democrats so they might be less inclined to brand this by-election a 'waste' of money. The fact this term runs until 2014 could be used to differential the two by-elections (see comments).

If a by-election does take place we will try and do a bit better with our pre-count coverage. At least we aren't strangers to the good political folk of Adur now!

The Adur, Eastbrook vacancy will be contested in May 2012 in any case as the former Lib Dem councillor elected in 2010 came second and therefore had only a 2 year term.
