By-Election Watch (09/08/10)

Here's our current list of forthcoming by-elections. Again, there is only one vacancy to be filled this week; I'll preview the vote in Medway on Wednesday. Although August is going to remain quiet, 9th September is shaping up to be a "Super-Thursday" of local council elections! With 30 wards up for grabs it's likely to be a good gauge of the main parties' standings to compliment the summer's polling, and it's conveniently scheduled just before the conference season starts. Any political junkies who are in need of an election fix may want to start preparing excuses for why they're tired on Friday 10th September…!

  1. Is Exeter and Norwich due to the cancellation of the cancellation of the attempt to make them unitary councils?

  2. Yep. I'll go over them in more detail in early September ;-)

  3. Is the by-election in Edinburgh due to happen under AV, seeing that Scottish councils are elected by STV now?

  4. Full of questions aren't ya! I'm going with yes. There was a by-election for an Edinburgh ward in November 2008 and AV was used then.

  5. I figured it would be. That's what they do in Ireland too.
